12/30: Boston local meeting

The Socialist Party of Boston will meet on Sunday, 30 December, at noon in the Lucy Parsons Center. We hope you can make it over the New Year's weekend, since both the fundraising party and the workers' rights forum are rapidly approaching (to say nothing of First Night Against the War).

As always, we will continue organizing to build the Moore-Alexander 2008 campaign. A Massachusetts state convention is also being planned for mid-February. All this, and more including news of recent events and elections, can be yours -- for free! -- at the Lucy Parsons Center.

The Lucy Parsons Center is located at 549 Columbus Ave. in the South End, near the Mass Ave. T stop on the Orange Line, the Symphony T stop on the Green Line (E), and the #1 bus line. For more information, visit www.lucyparsons.org.

Minutes from our previous local meeting can be found here.

12/10: Rally and Speak-out for Human Rights, Greenfield Town Common, 4 pm

Monday, December 10, is the 49th anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by the General Assembly of the United Nations. To honor this document, and to raise our voices against abuse and inequality everywhere, there will be a rally and speak-out at 4 p.m. on the Greenfield Town Common.

In the words of the UN General Assembly, respect for human rights and human dignity "is the foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the world."

We all know the extent to which the basic human rights and needs of the vast majority of people in this world, women in particular, continue to be denied by those representing and defending the power structures of global capitalism.

So please join us to reaffirm the value and importance of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by making a declaration of our own: a pledge to continue the on-going struggle for a society organized for people, not profit-- for caring, not killing.

This event is sponsored by the Connecticut Valley Coalition for Women's Lives and the Tom Mooney/Western Mass Local of the Socialist Party.

12/8: Boston Socialist Kaffeeklatsch

The Socialist Party of Boston is sponsoring an informal get-together this Saturday, 8 December, at noon in Java Jo's cafe. We'll have a chance to get food and drinks, and chat about whatever catches our fancy -- from the upcoming concert and forum to the presidential campaign to music and films.

Java Jo's is located at 3710 Washington St., near the Forest Hills T station on the Orange Line and several bus lines.
